Well, it can help, but it’s seldom a sole cure.
In and of itself, Ginkgo Biloba helps to increase circulation to the head. Because of that, it’s typically most beneficial for brain health, but it has shown benefits for the eyes and ears. In fact, I’ve seen some non-drug products that address tinnitus that include Ginkgo for that reason. However, just increasing circulation to the ears doesn’t mean you’ll be giving your body all the nutrition it needs to heal the damage… that’s why many of those formulas have several other herbs and/or Homeopathic ingredients to help heal the damage.

With that being said, part of it also depends on the cause. For example, if it’s just wear and tear over time, those formulas can be a huge benefit… but if it’s from physical damage (like sitting in front of concert speakers a few too many times), then it might not be so easy (some of that damage isn’t repairable either). In my case, I damaged my ears by using ear buds in Jr High and High School… my ears have had a dull ring for more than a decade or so, but thankfully it’s quiet enough that I only hear it when everything else is silent. I’ve been taking Ginkgo for the past 4 years or so and I haven’t noticed a significant improvement, but I haven’t been taking anything else to benefit the ears with that added circulation. However, I’ve noticed HUGE benefits for my memory within just a few weeks, so I know it works very well for other things.
If you wanted to try a formulation for tinnitus, then you should also be aware that many people do get tremendous benefits from them… but it can also take several months because the body has to heal up and rebuild the tissues, which takes time. Good luck and I hope I helped!

Ginko biloba has fair evidence of improving poor circulation in the legs, and perhaps with dementia. That’s it. There is no evidence it has any efficacy with tinnitus, which is a notoriously difficult condition to treat.

However, it also may cause bleeding or enhance other anticoagulants (ASA, warfarin) and has been linked to seizures and Stevens-Johnson syndrome ( a life threatening condition where the skin basically sloughs off)

Hmm studies shows that there are actually patients who recovered with Ginkgo Biloba in the past. However, there are also people who did not do very well with it.

I guess it is a very subjective matter. It is better to consult your doctor before you do it.

Leaves of ginkgo are the ones having medicinal qualities and their main constituents are ginkgolide terpenes and flavonoids - antioxidants that strengthen the blood vessels and improve the circulation. Terpenoids (such as ginkgolides) improve blood flow by dilating blood vessels and reducing the stickiness of platelets. These particular traits of ginkgo are used to treat tinnitus by improving the circulation in the ear area. As many a times, tinnitus is attributed to nerve damage and certain blood vessel disorders, some researchers believe that ginkgo relieves symptoms of this hearing disorder. Although the quality of most studies was poor, the reviewers concluded that ginkgo moderately relieves the loudness of the sound heard by tinnitus sufferers.

But as old time kid said, Ginkgo alone may find it extremely difficult to cure this terribly chronic disorder.

That is why it is generally used with herbs and homeopathic tissue salts to enhance each others effects. For example, you may use these with Ginkgo

• Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions.
• Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus.
• Wild Hyssop s also useful in reducing pain and inflammation.
• Salicylic Ac. is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin.

Some tissue salts that are extremely beneficial include

Ferrum phosphoricum (Ferrum phos. D6) which supports the absorption of iron in the body. The protective myelin sheath which surrounds all nerve tissue needs iron to supply this vital nutrient to the nerve cells it encases.

Magnesium phosphate (Mag. phos. D6) well-known as a homeopathic painkiller, Mag. phos. is also of great benefit to the health of the nerves. It acts as a natural anti-spasmodic and a nerve and muscle relaxant and is also frequently recommended for stress headaches & tinnitus.
