Regardless of whether or not it is listed as a side effect, the occurance of both the medication change and ringing in the ears could be more than a coincidence and an important symptom of something that needs treated. Tinnitus has a lot of different causes. You should let your doctor know about it.
Metformin to Glucophage XR is just doing metformin in slow release. I do almost the same . But I think ringing in the ears is caused by diabetes.Idon’t think amaryl is the cause either.
Good luck my friend.>
You do not indicate if you are on other medications or have additional medical conditions that might cause tinnitus. To my knowledge and additional research neither Glucophage or Glimeperide have the side effect of tinnitus. I further checked ototoxicity to examine if too high a dose for an individual might bring on ringing of the ears. Although there are many side effects that correlate with these 2 medications, tinnutus is not one of them. I thought perhpas your blood sugar might be dropping to low after ingesting one of these prescriptions, but hypoglycemia does not bring about tinnitus either. I included the symptoms below for your review. If the tinnitus continues, I would suggest makging an appointment with an otolaryngologist (EENT).

It’s far more likely that the diet that led to the type two diabetes is what caused the tinnitus. What did your last lipid panel look like?
Metformin is the generic form of Glucophage. XR simply means it’s the extended release version. They’re the same drug.
Amaryl (Glimepiride) is a sulfonylurea which I strongly advise you to find a way to get off of. Research it yourself. http://www.healthcentral.com/druglibrary/408/amaryl-warnings_precautions.html It forces the already overworked pancreas to work even harder. Ask some insulin using type twos what happened a few years after using sulfonylurea drugs. It has also been implicated in other health issues.
The whole secret to controlling type two diabetes is not forcing your body to produce more insulin, it’s to make the existing insulin work more effectively by lowering your insulin resistance. I’m not just saying this. I have a profound fear of becoming insulin dependent and have researched this for years. I got off all medication last December after battling this disease for over five years. Today, I feel like I did twenty years ago when I was in my thirties.
