Tinnitus can be a really debilitating impairment; hence I was interested to read in Science Daily that targeted nerve stimulation could actually reverse tinnitus in the longer-term.

Dr Michael Kilgard and Dr Navzer Engineer of University of Texas at Dallas and University-affiliated biotechnology firm Micro Transponder have reported after research, vagus nerve stimulus had got rid of tinnitus in rats.

Obviously the aim of many people who live with the irritation of tinnitus, want to stop the ringing in the ears that this brings. Science Daily has reported that the US Veterans Administration pays up to $1billion yearly on disability payments for tinnitus sufferers.

Tinnitus can affect more than 10 percent of the elderly population and a higher 40 percent of military personnel.

You can read more of this very interesting and informative article at – http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/01/110112132130.htm, which also states that further research is taking place on this project of, hopefully, a cure for the irritation of tinnitus.
