New Therapy That Could Ease the Symptoms of Tinnitus

Mail Online News story on March 13th 1010 by Roger Dobson stated that there is a new device called the brain zapper that could help ease the symptoms of tinnitus.

Research on this brain zapper has shown that treatment can actually reduce nerve cell activity in the brain by stimulating the brain with electric impulses and thus will reduce the annoying tinnitus.

This technology is already causing waves as it is being used to treatment illnesses such as depression, migraines, pain and eating disorders and has now already been used for tinnitus and the effects of the treatment will mean that the benefits can last for six months plus when the therapy is finished.

Don’t think you are alone suffering from this illnesses, included among the millions of tinnitus sufferers are celebrities such as Phil Collins, Peter Stringfellow and Eric Clapton.

There are many causes of tinnitus but a theory is that the central nervous system changes whether through sound exposure, ageing, drug use and believe it or not that includes aspirin and hence the nerve cell activity increases and becomes hyperactive.

The machine that carries out this treatment is called rTMS machine and the stimulation therapy to the brain relaxes the hyperactivity in the brain and thus lessens the tinnitus.

What does rTMS stand for?  Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation so it produces electrical activity in the brain.

Several hundred tinnitus suffers have already undergone trials using this technology.  Results have shown a reduction in the majority of these tinnitus sufferers.

This therapy is easily administered as it given in daily 20 minute outpatient sessions.  Apparently patients said the sensation was similar to tapping an arm with a pencil.

The second trial in Brazil also helped sufferers whose symptoms decreased for at least six months.

More trials are taking place in both American and Germany and the newspaper gave the email info@tinnituszentrumregensburg. de  if you should need further information.

So take heart all Tinnitus sufferers medical breakthroughs are happening continually, so hopefully this will be something that you can use too.
