I have a friend who has had tinnitus for a week now with episodes of orthostatic hypotension and his doctor told him to drink more water and add more salt to his diet. Is this good advice?

Tinnitus can have different causes – and yes, inofficially it can be treated efficiently in about 50% of the cases by "Atlasprofilax".

I am only in medical school, but these are generally two very different conditions that I have a hard time finding a common cause. If no link can be found, then you treat them separately. Since there is no treatment for tinnitus, he is treating the hypotension. The salt and water is the most basic advice for hypotension. If salt and water does bring up his blood pressure, then he should see a different doctor.

Orthostatic hypertension can be reduced by getting up slowly from bed or from a chair, the symptoms of dizziness are due to getting up too fast. Tinnitus has many causes stress, high blood pressure etc and some people have got relief from using a product called lipoflavonoid.
